Places That Feel Like Memories | Logan Valley Mall
I've always been drawn to places that feel strangely familiar.
Places that remind me of something I can't quite put my finger on. Empty malls, old storefronts, fluorescent lights, quiet streets, glowing windows at blue hour, forgotten corners of small towns — places that somehow feel like memories, even when they aren't necessarily mine.
Lately, I've found myself photographing more and more of them.
Places That Feel Like Memories is an ongoing photography series exploring nostalgia, memory, and the strange feeling of returning to — or discovering — places that seem suspended somewhere between the past and present.
Moving back home to Central Pennsylvania has played a huge part in this project. I've been revisiting towns and places I knew years ago, while also exploring parts of Pennsylvania I've driven past a hundred times without really stopping to look.
Photography has given me a reason to slow down and notice them.
Some of these photographs are made while wandering around with my camera and no real plan. Others come from intentionally returning to places that hold memories for me. I'm especially drawn to the moments when ordinary places start to feel a little different — an empty arcade, a nearly forgotten shopping mall, a football field at dusk, a quiet street after everyone has gone home.
There's something about photographing these places that feels like preserving a tiny piece of them before they change again.
This series will continue to grow as I do — throughout Central Pennsylvania and wherever else my camera takes me.
I'll be sharing more of these photographs and the stories behind them here on the blog, and eventually, select images from Places That Feel Like Memories will also be available as fine art prints.
